We believe that Ireland’s wonderful story should be felt, discovered and lived, so our mission is to create immersive outdoor classroom experiences for university students and faculty, as well as visitors and local communities of all ages eager to explore Ireland’s vibrant natural, archaeological and cultural heritage.

“I will forever be grateful for this experience. It has been so lovely living in Birr; Ireland will always have a special place in my heart! I will miss not only this beautiful country but also all the people (and puppies!) I have been lucky to live and work with during my time here.”

“This is my second time coming back to the IHS and I have to say the experience I gathered is invaluable to me. As someone who is pursuing a career in archaeology, this internship provided the hands-on training one needs in the field as well as allowing me to practice my teaching skills. The staff is incredibility knowledgeable and eager to help with any questions you might have. I highly recommend this internship!”. – Lina Ramirez, Student in Anthropology, University of California, Los Angeles.
“This experience has revived my passion for community engagement. Through this program I have gained skills to make me a better leader, communicator, and a better server to my community.” – Alexis, Indiana State University, USA
“It was a one-of-a-kind experience, and I am very grateful I received this opportunity. It is something I will remember forever”. – Olivia, Indiana State University, USA
“We had such a great time working with the IHS. I think a big highlight of the program for our students was the homestays. We had first time travellers in our group, and I think the homestays and small-town feel of Birr helped them feel more at home. I would recommend the Irish Heritage School to anyone looking for a faculty-led program in Ireland.” – Emily Dougherty, Education Abroad Advisor, University of North Dakota
“I would strongly recommend an Environmental Science Program with the IHS as the program is a great way to learn a variety of things (geology, ecology, archaeology, heritage) in the class but mostly hands-on.” – Ansley Still, Eckerd College, FL (USA)
“The program was well-rounded, educational and very fun. It was great to hike around Ireland and learn so much about its cultural and environmental past.” – Emily Wexler, Boston University, MA (USA)
“The breadth and depth exceeded my expectations. I was impressed with the content and the way in which Stephen delivered it in an easy-to-understand way using helpful visuals. Having the course online was a huge bonus. I was pleased to take part even though I’m predominantly based in the UK. Having done this course, I realise that I knew little about my home county. Thank you, Stephen, for enlightening me!” – Johan, Hertfordshire, UK.
